May Dog Success Story: Willow

It was the week after Thanksgiving 2017. We got our first set of dogs from the Calhoun County Humane Society. Among them was Willow, a female black and white hound mix less than a year old. She was a bit shy and and needed to learn the basics like how to walk on a leash.

Willow’s soft floppy ears and huge sad brown eyes made her easy to fall in love with. Everyone at Encore had a soft spot for Willow. When she was learning leash walking, she would get a little overwhelmed and just lay down – pancaking herself on the floor. We tried hard not to laugh, cause we didn’t want to encourage that behavior. But it was SO cute! Then she’d flip over for a belly rub, and of course we obliged. And she would smile the sweetest smile.

Willow did finally get the hang of leash walking and sitting and all those other basic things. She was great around other dogs and had a kind, gentle spirit. She was picked up by a rescue organization to find her forever home in Florida on January 20, 2018.
