Good News Stories…Maybe!

By Julie Madden

By now all you Alabama folks know that Gov. Kay Ivey issued a “Safer at Home” order yesterday that allows some businesses to re-open after April 30.  We are reviewing our procedures at Encore, as well as having conversations with our partners and volunteers. We will decide by Friday if it is safe for EEC to re-open next week and if so, under what conditions. So our work with shelter dogs, and our training classes and private evaluations, may be ready to roll soon!

We are so proud of our partners Calhoun County Humane Society, League for Animal Welfare, and Rockin P Rescue – who have managed to keep adoptions and rescues going while caring for the animals and providing a safe haven in an incredibly stressful time. We can’t wait to start working with their dogs again, and will do so as long as we know we are respecting people’s health and safety.

So, hopefully some good news coming on that. And here’s some more. We prepared an update today on Snax, the young black and white Heeler mix at the League. Snax has been at the shelter about a year and so far no luck in finding her perfect match. Well we got a call this afternoon that Snax is going on an “overnighter” – a test run to see if she is a good fit with a potential adopter. So fingers crossed that it all goes well and you don’t read about Snax because she is in her forever home!

Take care of yourselves, your family, and your pets during this COVID 19 crisis.
