Dogs for the weeks of February 4 and February 11

Group of Dogs

Rascal –

UPDATE:  Rascal got neutered last week and has recovered nicely from surgery.  He is back to full energy and full speed ahead!  We think he may have some Australian Kelpe in him, given his bouncy, energetic nature and need for a job. Rascal is doing better on leash walking and we are working on retrieving and the “give” command.

Rascal – Here’s Rascal, a two year old male cattle dog mix, a nice sized pooch around 40 lbs. Rascal needs a job! He has energy to spare, and would love nothing better than find a home where folks want a dog they can do agility, nose work, rally, or some other sport with – or a dog they can take on long walks or runs. He showed up at the shelter gate just before the holidays. Guess he knew he needed a hand to help him find a forever home.

Clint –

UPDATE:  Clint had to take a couple days off from Encore as he recovers from his neutering last week. However, it won’t put him far behind because this gentle, good natured boy already knows basic commands.  He is ready for a home and family to help him put on a few pounds an play, play, play!

Clint – Meet Clint, a two year old lab mix and a good sized male around 65 lbs. He was a stray brought in just a few weeks ago. Clint is very calm, dog friendly, and house trained. This sweet boy likes toys and treats and attention.

Lola –

UPDATE:  Lola is improving on her leash walking and she has “sit” down pat.  She is loveable but not clingy – she doesn’t need to be constantly with someone.  And we think she is ready to part ways with Mars – when they play together Mars is always knocking her around just because he’s still so puppy clumsy, in a large package!

Lola – Miss Lola is year old female boxer mix about 60 lbs. She and her mate Mars were both owner surrenders from a couple who adopted them together from a Texas shelter, moved to Alabama, then needed to give them up. So even though she hails from Texas, Lola’s home’s in Alabama now, and she couldn’t be happier than the prospect of living with a proud Bama family! Lola is spayed and current on all shots.

Mars – UPDATE: Mr. Mars is getting more and more comfortable with the Encore surroundings – he is starting to zoom around the play yard and snuggle with everyone he meets!  This gentle giant loves attention, and he loves playing with Lola, but she is not as thrilled as he is.  Probably because he doesn’t realize just how big he is.

Mars –  Wow, welcome to Alabama, Mr. Mars! What a happy dog this goofball is. Mars is a Great Dane/Plott Hound mix, 80 lbs and already neutered and current on his shots. He’s about a year or so old, and says he’s not sure if he’s going to root for Alabama or Auburn. Whichever he chooses, that team will get a BIG fan! Mars is an extra large boy that just needs a refresher on basic skills like not jumping. He already knows sit.

Stevie –

UPDATE:  Well just everyone has fallen in love with Stevie! He has that serious, sometimes sad looking expression.  He loves all people and with the right dog, could probably be OK with another dog in the family, too. He is doing great on his obedience topics – sit, stay, down, shake and almost has roll over, too.

Stevie – is a three year old pit bull mix who weighs 50 lbs. and could stand to put on a bit more weight. He was brought to the shelter as a stray just before the holidays. He is a smart boy, who already knows sit, shake and down! Stevie is energetic and treat motivated and was very brave – he went down the playground slide on his first day at Encore! He’s had some rough times and been in a few scrapes and is ready to settle down with a great person or family.
