Calling all Sniffers for an ORT!

On Saturday, March 27, Encore Enrichment Center is hosting an Odor Recognition Test – an event sanctioned by the National Association of Canine Scent Work® (NACSW). The full premium and registration form are available on our website under Events.

During an ORT, owners and their dogs search 12 identical closed boxes to find the one that has the scent of birch, anise, or clove. Each odor is run separately and the time limit is three minutes per search. An ORT tests not only the dog’s ability to find the odor, but the owner’s ability to read his or her dog’s communication.

A portion of each registration fee for the ORT will be used for Encore’s operations, so participants are supporting our work with shelter dogs! (Thank you very much.)

The event is not open to the public, and we will be taking COVID precautions. Attendee vehicles will be spread out in the parking lot and everyone will wear a mask and keep socially distant. That’s easy to do during an NACSW event as we ask participants to keep eight feet apart when they are walking their dogs, anyway. Everyone knows to give each other some space!

Registration opens February 17 at 11 a.m. After you read the premium, if you have a question please contact Julie Madden.
