A Yard Sale During COVID-19?

We talked a lot at Encore about whether we should hold our fall Yard Sale to raise money to help shelter dogs. Well, we sure know how to clean and sanitize as part of our core mission. We believe we can run a fun event and keep people safe, too. We set the date for Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at our building at 301 EA Darden Drive in Anniston.

So plan to come out and see a ton of great items for sale! We will have $1, $3 and $5 tables and racks. Men’s and women’s clothes, both summer and winter. Music albums, cassettes and CDs. Briefcases, bags, even a set of saddle bags! Small kitchen appliances. Some bigger ticket items, like an inversion table, freezer, TV, and wine cooler. *All payments will be cash or card only.

We also have some guest vendors with their tables of goodies, including Diane Dozier with lots of garage sale items, and Melinda Gallahar Hicks. Melinda sells Paparazzi jewelry which is very popular with its wide variety of designs and wonderful pricing of $5 an item. The Produce Wagon from Heflin. They have a FB page, @theProduceWagons. Also Amanda Mosley will be selling Avon products.

The League for Animal Welfare will also be on hand, to answer questions about dog or cat adoptions and showcase the wonderful work they do right here in Anniston.

To keep things safe, here’s what we’re going to do. Everyone must wear a mask, or a face shield. We have two large classroom areas and the tables will be spread 10 feet apart. At the entrance to each classroom we’ll have hand sanitizer and disposable gloves. We’ll have people taking payment and making change at each set of tables. You can pay by cash or check.

We’re going to ask folks to not bunch up too much at the tables and maintain that six-foot distance from others. We believe that if everyone respects their neighbor and uses common sense, this will be a super fun event!
